KAISWAM

The KNUST Africa Institute of Sanitation and Waste Management (KAISWAM) is the outcome of a partnership between the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)—the foremost Science and Technology University in Ghana and Zoomlion Ghana Ltd – Africa’s biggest Sanitation and Waste Management company.

About us

About Us.

KAISWAM is an impressive state-of-the-art facility specializing in developing knowledge and training of highly competent human resources to address Africa’s environmental health and sustainable development issues.

AISWAM

It is a uniquely African initiative and an emergent Centre of Excellence whose existence has been necessitated by the ever-increasing waste and sanitation crisis many African countries and their communities face. The need for transformative solutions to Africa’s interconnected environmental, social, and economic challenges, therefore, remains a fundamental concern of the Institute

Operating on a philosophy of experience and problem-based education, the Institute works with governments, development agencies, local and international academic institutions, and other stakeholders to train skilled professionals who graduate with a high sense of professionalism and the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes to address Africa’s environment and development challenges.

The Institute represents a paradigm shift in environmental sanitation and waste management practices in Africa. While sanitation, public health, and waste management remain a central focus in its operations, the African Institute of Sanitation and Waste Management also acknowledges the reality that the ever-growing waste and sanitation crisis is as much a social, cultural, and economic challenge which, by all means, need to be addressed seamlessly and holistically within the broader sustainable development context.

Unlock Potential with KAISWAM

The KNUST-Africa Institute of Sanitation and Waste Management (K-AISWAM) is thus a KNUST campus in Accra. As an Academia-Industry collaboration, it was established by KNUST and the Zoomlion Group to offer a cutting-edge education to prospective students in Accra and beyond. Located in Ashaley Botwe Nmai-Djorn with an Annex at Adiringarnor, it provides a conducive environment for teaching and learning

As an Academia-Industry collaboration we have evolved over the years to become a centre of excellence for individuals, businesses, Government, International bodies, who want to thrive and transform society through training and development. With our local roots, we offer cutting edge and world class education and training to prospective individuals and organizations of all kinds in Ghana and beyond.

Thrive with Us

Ghana’s rapid economic growth is resulting in the generation of increased human and industrial wastes that are severely affecting its environment. Over the years there has been growing recognition of the inability of traditional waste management systems to cope with the volumes of wastes generated daily around us. New and improved methods of environmental sanitation that employ modern technologies with trained human resources are required to effectively take up the challenge of managing the wastes in an environmentally sustainable manner.

The Institute is much more than a waste management research and training facility. The entire environmental sanitation industry in Ghana and throughout West Africa is seriously underdeveloped and untapped. Our partners, Zoomlion Ghana Ltd and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, have joined together to form the Institute as both a tertiary level education entity and an environmental consultancy. What we learn in the field quickly comes to the classroom, so our students are at the cutting edge of applied environmental science. Commenced in 2011, with the vision of providing capacity in environmental sanitation management, in collaboration with KNUST. Previously ran academic courses specifically in 12 subject areas.
